Yes it would only help most of the time. Typically the air dries out in the heating season. Humidifiers will add moisture content to the air for this season. A 90 percent efficiency furnace or higher will save you money on the gas bill. Also venting can be done in pvc pipe. Which means it doesn't have to go to the roof it can be vented out a sidewall.
